Ridout Associates is a team of independent consultants who specialise in the scientific assessment of timber decay and other damp related problems in historic buildings and other important structures. We undertake a range of different types of damp, timber decay, and environmental monitoring surveys throughout the British Isles and beyond.
Over the last 20 years our philosophy has been to avoid the expensive damage caused by unnecessary or incautious remedial treatments, and thus to reduce both the loss of historic materials and the quantities of hazardous chemicals introduced into the environment.
We provide independent reports and recommendations on the control of damp in buildings (rising damp, penetrating damp and condensation etc) and the status and severity of timber decay organisms including: dry rot, wet rots, deathwatch beetle, furniture beetle and termites. As consultants we do not undertake works, but provide our clients with a cost effective appraisal of their buildings often saving substantial amounts of time and money otherwise spent on inappropriate or unnecessary beetle infestation treatments or dry rot repairs.
We have been involved in a wide range of projects including Royal palaces, urban regeneration of large industrial buildings in major UK cities as well as international projects including: The Golden Temple of Amritsar, India and heritage buildings in Bahrain, Vietnam, Greece, Turkey and Morocco.
Our conservation approach to timber decay and the promotion of holistic building conservation principals has lead to us being approved by the Getty Conservation Institute, UNESCO, English Heritage, The National Trust, NHBC and Zurich Financial Services. We are also consultants for numerous small privately owned vernacular buildings.
